'Legend of Neil' Season 2 Boasts Musical Romp

Atom hosted a special preview screening Tuesday night of the first three episodes of The Legend of Neil season 2, revealing what had been rumored earlier this summer—the season does indeed contain a 9-minute musical episode. Creators Sandeep Parikh (The Guild) and Tony Janning opened the evening with Neil star Janning acting out the show’s ignominious opening. Janning returns as underachieving everyman Neil, who faces a new set of life turds this time around. Good thing for his quantum space bending game console, as he’s sucked right back in as Link inside the world of Zelda once again. Also returning is Felicia Day who brings back her role as the pint-sized Fairy.

Following the screening, there was a brief Q&A with Parikh and the cast members Janning, Mike Rose, Scott Chernoff taking questions. The group confirmed that the season features only one musical episode which also doubles as the longest one to date. We won’t give away too much, other than the revelation that, oh man, can Zelda (Angie Hill) sing! (UPDATE: Turns out it is actually Dr. Horrible writer Maurissa Tancharoen, now Marissa Whedon, who sang the part of Zelda for Hill.) And Felicia Day is hands down the raunchiest Fairy on the internet. More of evil boss Gannon (Chernoff) was promised for the season as well.

The series will officially launch season 2 on July 27 on Atom. Parikh, Day and Janning will be screening the first three episodes during the Legend of Neil panel at Comic-Con in San Diego on Saturday July 25 at 7:30 PM in Room 7AB as well as signing autographs in the Atom.com booth (3445).

Atom will also be announcing a collaboration with G4’s Olivia Munn at the conference, debuting “Operation Olivia” Star Wars fan film program. Munn will be on hand to announce the winner of the Fan Movie challenge on Friday at 8:30 PM in Ballroom 20.

Day, who will also be at the conference screening season 3 of her hit web series The Guild, said that there will be a “super secret video” screened on Friday morning, revealing some major Guild updates.
