New Year Sparks New Loves: 3 Series Bringing Heat To '09

Whether you’re still relishing that midnight kiss, or you kissed off 2008 weeks ago, web series both old and new are reflecting back on all they have conquered, while teasing what may lie ahead in upcoming seasons. As we struggle to stick to those New Year’s resolutions perhaps there’s reassurance in the gaffes of our online counterparts as they struggle to find love, and success from both their co-stars, and their audience. Here’s a sampling of some episodes helping kick-off the new year.

Lost Angeles (above) follows the life of Will Carson who makes a break for Los Angeles after a heart-wrenching break-up in New York. New Year’s Eve makes matters worse, but luckily for Will he’s rarely alone. Will, played by James C. Leary (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) rarely seems to be without a girl on his arm as his navigates his new life in LA. Nonetheless, his text-fest to the ex on New Year’s lands him in a downward spiral of drunk-dialing we all can relate to.

No matter how bad your post-holiday blues may be, they will never match Piper’s. Easy Bake Lovin’ goes beyond Piper’s sad quest to snag a bachelor through her cooking by introducing a new character–Piper’s saucy sister. By giving Piper (actress Rebecca Johnson) someone to play off of, the title character just got one hundred times simultaneously more pathetic, sympathetic, and hysterical.

Ironsink’s The Upstairs Girls hit one hundred episodes this year. At first glance, the show seems little more than a Real World spin-off, but tune-in long enough, and you’ll get hooked on the enjoyable soapy drama with solid acting from Justine Peacock, and Erica Rhodes, playing DeeDee and Sandy respectively .

The show cleverly is paired with The Downstairs Guys showing two sides of every story from the male and female perspective. Post New Year’s Sandy deals with the fact that her boy friend couldn’t tell he wasn’t kissing her with the very funny line, “I just thought you got better at kissing.” Meanwhile DeeDee enjoys some serious attention from a long-time crush.
