Dave Navarro Hosts 'Spread TV'

Dave Navarro, notable guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jane’s Addiction (not to mention former boy-toy to Carmen Electra) has branched out. Add ‘Mediocre Internet Talk Show Host’ in his line of credits.

Yes, following in the web chat shoes of Tom Green, tatooed, leather-clad, and make-uped Navarro welcomes a ragtag group of personalities on his Spread TV. You just need to read the tagline – “arts and the human condition” – to know that this artist takes himself a little too seriously.

Already into its fourth season

, each week Dave Navarro’s Spread TV features call-in guests (give him a ring at 310-486-6142), live musical performances, love advice, and interviews, not to mention guitar lessons from a host of famous actrors (Andy Milonakis, Margaret Cho), musicians (Gene Simmons), and celebrities (Adam Rifkin, Sasha Grey) – all to the sound of four audience members clapping.

Along with long-time friend and sardonic sidekick Todd Newman (who also acts as Spread TV’s segment producer), each webisode has something different, whether such bands as Gram Rabbit (who crank it out in studio) or a twenty minute interview with TV producer Thom Beers (yeah, I haven’t heard of him either) who created such reality shows as America’s Toughest Jobs.

Spread TV works when musical guitar legend George Lynch from Lynch Mob gives Dave tips on how to grind on his skeleton-studded ax. Spread TV crashes into the side of the mountain when Dave gives out advice on life and love as bad boy with a heart of gold, Dr. Dave. In on segment, Feeling for the Ex, such words of wisdom are given to a woman who dumped her boyfriend: “You got to realize he’s gone with the wind. That’s it.”

It’s not that Spread TV‘s guests are mostly B-list or below, or that the host is bad, he’s just boring.  Trying so hard to be an inked, pretty-faced combination of Dr. Phil, Charlie Rose, and Tom Green that he fails at all three.

Stick to Celebrity Poker Showdown and the guitar, Mr. Navarro. I can’t watch your talk show but I could watch you play all day.
