'We Need Girlfriends' Says Goodbye, But Not Forever

We Need Girlfriends (Tilzy.TV page) speaks to me. It’s probably got something to do with my being smack in the middle of the show’s target audience (lovelorn post-college males living in the boroughs of the Big Apple), the emotionally indulgent fact that I too have perused an ex-girlfriend in the online social space (Vanessa, your MySpace profile is a bit too pretentiously contrived, but you still look great with that tan), and (as I’ve noted before) the show is one of the best that the internet has to offer.

But last month, with its first season finale, We Need Girlfriends said goodbye…for now. ###

Sandwiched between an unsurprisingly enamored Henry and a surprisingly responsible Rod, who both are settling into their newfound relationships, Tom finds himself alone. But for the first time, he realizes that that’s okay.

What’s next for the haplessly-hopeful-turned-hopefully-happy trio? Steven Tsapelas, one-third of RagTag Productions, the team responsible for We Need Girlfriends, did his best to fill me in over e-mail.

“Actually, right now, we’re kind of exploring some options about the future of Ragtag and WNG. Let’s just say there’s a good chance WNG will continue…I just can’t give you the ‘when’ or the ‘where’ yet.”

Ambiguous for sure, and when pressed Tsapleas wouldn’t offer any particulars, but this seems promising. Maybe the series will end up on MySpace TV? Crackle? Or possibly even old TV’s FX? Or Spike?

Whatever the possibilities, if I were in charge of acquiring content for a media company, new or old, I’d call “squirrel” on this series before someone else tries to scam on it.
