MTV.com Lets You Embed Videos, Finally

It’s about time. MTV has finally gotten hip to the online video scene and become the latest major cable network to allow its videos to be embedded on external websites. Now you can blog about the ridiculousness of 50 Cent and JT’sAyo Technology” or expound the awesomeness of Human Giant with the added benefit of copyright sanctioned, supplemental video.

This comes an eternal nine months after MTV’s funnier sister site, Comedy Central, began allowing its Motherload clips to be shared around the web.  At first the videos had annoying expiration dates, but Comedy Central quickly corrected their error in judgement.

Considering that YouTube gained its dominance and viral popularity from allowing its clips to be embedded all over the place since late 2005, it’s perplexing that it’s taken this long for media properties to follow suit.  Taking the Viacom-YouTube lawsuits into account, you would think that Viacom-owned networks would have adopted an embed feature en masse long ago. Better late than never.

Lost Remote’s Michael Gay gets the credit for the tip on this pleasant surprise.
