aniBOOM Draws on YouTube to Help Find the Next Animated Hit

aniBOOM (Tilzy.TV page) is a video-sharing site and community for animators of all dimensions, styles, talent levels, and locations to promote and share their work with the power of the web.

Started in September 2007 by Israeli-broadcasting veteran Uri Shinar, the site boasts a community of over 2,500 animators from more than 70 countries, runs several animation contests, and hosts some truly amazing content.

What’s next for a community comprised of such talent? Television. ###

According to Cnet, aniBOOM will work with at least 10 hand-selected animators to jointly develop and produce multiple animation series in hopes of finding the web’s next Homestar Runner (Tilzy.TV page) or Happy Tree Friends (Tilzy.TV page), or television’s next South Park or Simpsons.

Using the internet as a highly cost-effective focus group, aniBOOM will distribute the series all over the web in order to reach the widest possible audience and find out what shows will “catch.” In that vein, the site is expected to launch its own YouTube channel later this week.

In addition to Newgrounds and Channel Frederator (Tilzy.TV page), aniBOOM ranks amongst the best places on the web to find new, quality animation. That the site has to upload to YouTube to find a diverse enough focus group for potential hit programs shows that, though the online video space is diffusing into areas of niche programming, in terms of mainstream appeal, YouTube is still king.
