Internet celebs like Amanda Congdon have transitioned to bigger and better things on the old boob-tube, so its great to see some big Hollywood names take a break from film and TV for the internet. Jack Black has been on the web for years, and Will Ferrell, Bob Odenkirk, and Michael Cera comprise part of a recent stream of talent and celebrity that will only further legitimize and advance the medium. In that vein, it’s great to add another name to the list.
The Hollywood Reporter announced, that Minnie Driver has signed on to voice Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider-themed, ten-episode season of Re\Visioned.
The show is an online animated series that will showcase different interpretations of the virtual heroine from a select handful of artists. The series will debut July 10 on GameTap, a TBS-owned “broadband gaming network” that offers users a rotating schedule of classic arcade, computer, and video games to play, along with related content like Re/Visioned
.Its no surprise that the gaming niche has become huge on the internet. MTV networks owns the similarly-themed Gametrailers (Tilzy.TV Page) and independent producers like Captain S (Tilzy.TV Page) and those featured on ScrewAttack have begun creating gaming-related content.
A big name like Minnie Driver will drive even more interest to the genre, and if done well, should have a positive effect on video game, comic book and movie ticket sales for the next incarnation of Tomb Raider. Check out the trailer bellow and the premiere on GameTap next Tuesday. We’ll be watching.
