Creators are filling multiplexes and earning Emmy nominations, and now, they’re getting their own film festival premieres, too. At the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), a premiere hosted by YouTube and Variety will showcase new work from creators like Mark Vins (of Brave Wilderness fame) and Ziwe.
The 2026 edition of TIFF will begin on September 10. On that date, YouTube and Variety will throw a party to kick off The Market, TIFF’s content marketplace. Vins will take that opportunity to screen Reef To Ridge, a documentary centered around an expedition to the Galapagos Islands. Ziwe’s contribution to the docket includes two new episodes of her series You’d Be An Iconic Guest.
This won’t be the first time that one or more creator projects have premiered at a major film festival. Tribeca, a longtime ally of platforms like YouTube, has highlighted creators within its Tribeca N.O.W. track. And at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, an event affiliated with the Marché du Film celebrated creators and their cultural impact.

The TIFF event, however, is a bit different, in that the projects from Vins and Ziwe will become YouTube exclusives after they premiere. YouTube’s goal here is to emphasize its increasing influence within traditional film and TV circles. Previously, the platform aligned itself with those communities by moving Brandcast to upfronts season and making an FYC push for YouTube shows that merited Emmy nominations.
“YouTube is where the next generation of Hollywood is being built,” said YouTube Global Head of Creators Kim Larson in a statement. “Our creators are redefining what entertainment looks like across every screen. Partnering with TIFF to debut these incredible shows proves that YouTube creators aren’t just participating in the industry’s future – they are actively leading it.”
TIFF, like other festivals, has long supported digital media companies as they attempt to break into mainstream entertainment. It was an early distribution channel for Netflix and a promotional vehicle for creativity on Instagram. Now, YouTube is raising its profile at Canada’s best-known film festival. The 2026 edition of TIFF will run through September 20.
