During the last full week of July, four YouTube channels gained at least one million subscribers. The creator leading the pack is Zhong, who added 1.1 million weekly subs to bring his total up to 79.5 million subscribers. As large as the number is, the other three channels in this week’s million-sub club all have subscriber counts in nine-digit territory.

Other channels in the Global Sub Top 50 don’t have anywhere near 100 million subscribers — at least not yet. But as content becomes a platform-agnostic game, stars from other communities are starting to gain footholds on YouTube.
From its influencer boxers to its national team players, Spain stays winning
On July 25, Spanish streamer Ibai hosted the sixth edition of the influencer boxing event known as La Velada del Año. This year, La Velada took place at La Cartuja in Seville, which is one of Spain’s largest soccer stadiums. Ibai streamed the event across multiple platform, reaching millions of fans in the process.
La Velada VI was another big win for its organizers, but unlike previous installments of the event series, it was not a record-breaking affair. According to Streams Charts, La Velada VI’s Twitch stream peaked at 7.67 million concurrent viewers. That’s quite impressive, but it’s a far cry from the ten million Twitch concurrents who tuned into last year’s Velada.
Before you start broadcasting Ibai’s downfall from the rooftops, consider this: His Twitch activity may have declined because of how big his YouTube presence is getting. On YouTube, La Velada VI peaked at six million concurrents, according to Streams Charts. That set a new personal record for Ibai’s YouTube channel.
Boosted by that big audience, Ibai enjoyed the sort of success on YouTube that he typically finds on Twitch. He added 700,000 weekly subscribers during the last week of June, earning a tenth-place finish in the Global Sub Top 50.
So even though La Velada VI wasn’t as much of a record breaker as its predecessors, it was still a huge step forward for Ibai. Like iShowSpeed (#9 in the Global Sub Top 50), Spain’s favorite streamer is showing that an audience built on Twitch can be ported over to YouTube.
Of course, brand building doesn’t necessarily have to begin on Twitch. It can take off in the real world first, and that brings us to another ballyhooed Spaniard: Lamine Yamal.
The talisman of Spain’s national soccer team just won his first World Cup trophy, and his big win has boosted his profile on YouTube. On a bare-bones channel — one with no profile picture and a description that simply reads “yes, it’s me” — Lamine Yamal just added 380,000 weekly subscribers. That was good for a 90% week-over-week jump that pushed the winger up to 30th place in the Global Sub Top 50.

Neither Ibai nor Lamine Yamal first got big on YouTube, but if they both stay active on the platform, it will become a haven for Spanish creators. In the same way Ibai and TheGrefg played important roles in the growth of Hispanic streamer culture, Ibai and his buddies can usher in a similar renaissance on YouTube. (And yes, he and Lamine Yamal are acquainted with one another.)
It’s already a great time to be a Spanish-speaking creator on YouTube, and it’s about to get even better. The migrating audience of La Velada mirrors overall shifts in the creator industry, and Ibai is not one to shy away from a prevailing trend.
