The Toys and Colors franchise is expanding
Toys and Colors, the family channel partnered with the content studio pocket.watch, is growing up. After ruling our U.S. Top 50 for months, Toys and Colors raised its level once again to reach 762.1 million weekly views. That equals its high-water mark over the past 12 months.
Pocket.watch is looking to capitalize on that momentum. It has announced a deal with Bonkers Toys to produce items inspired by the Toys and Colors brand. A line of children’s books is also on the way. The products will help kids step into the “Kaleidoscope City” they love so much — and that will probably result in even more views for Toys and Colors.
The individual creators are coming (in one specific category)
The individuals in this week’s U.S. Top 50 include some familiar faces, such as MrBeast (#2), Sofi Manassyan (#16), and Daniel Labelle (#37). Shorts has helped those creators bring out their creativity, but other U.S. Top 50 entrants are apply a more rote approach: Content aggregation.
We’ve already talked about the chart prowess of viral video commentators like Zack D. Films (#4) and Dylan Anderson. But every week, it seems like another creator molded in Zack and Dylan’s image adds their name to the U.S. Top 50. The most recent person who fits that description is Marcos Sanchez, who reached 31st place in the U.S. Top 50 after collecting 142.4 million weekly views — far and away his best-ever seven-day sum.
Sanchez’s channel description describes his content as “the stories that y’all need to hear.” He’s certainly not the only chart topper engaging in that form of storytelling, but if he keeps up his growth, he may challenge stalwarts like Zack D. Films and Dylan Anderson before long.
Let’s check in on some pop culture pioneers
We’ve already discussed channels like Prvnci and Jason Derulo that use viral video commentary as a vehicle for promoting the titular artists’ releases. Let’s check in on how those musicians are faring these days.
They’re both ranked in this week’s U.S. Top 50, with Derulo in 12th place and Prvnci in 30th. While there’s still plenty of TikTok-style silliness on Derulo’s channel, he’s also experimenting with long-form content as well. He just dropped a new episode of a video podcast called On The Road. The show first hit his channel earlier this year but has been dormant for about eight months.
Derulo didn’t need help from stars like Paris Hilton to reach 231.7 million weekly views. Now that he’s adding some more star power to his channel, a trip back to the pinnacle of the U.S. Top 50 could be in order.
Channel Distribution
This week, there are 39 YouTube Shorts channels in the U.S. Top 50.
