This week, the Global Sub Top 50 is an exclusive club. To qualify for the chart, channels needed to add at least 200,000 new subscribers during the first week of September.

Channels from 17 different countries reached that benchmark. Leading the way is Lucan Pevidor, who rules the Global Sub Top 50 for the third week in a row. The Brazilian creator tallied 1.6 million weekly subscribers, putting him well ahead of The Stokes Twins and MrBeast in second and third place, respectively.
One of the last uncontacted communities on Earth is just waiting to discover Shorts
The North Sentinel Islands are part of a remote archipelago in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Famously, there are tribes on North Sentinel Island that remain largely uncontacted as of 2026.
Obviously, the Sentinelese have no access to YouTube Shorts, but whenever they log on, they might find themselves on the fast track to the Global Sub Top 50. An animated series that powers one of the top channels in this week’s ranking adopts the lore of the Sentinelese people.
The series in question is titled Sentinels, and its initial episodes are available on Jadu, the official YouTube hub of the AI animation production company Studio Jadu. Animators working through Jadu are using AI to tell their stories, and 597,000 new subscribers joined the fun during the first week of September.
Jadu’s success isn’t all about Sentinels — it has plenty of other animated shows on offer — but this isn’t the first time that an uncontacted tribe has come up in the creator world. The creator group Nelk previously stirred up controversy with a visit to an uncontacted tribe, whom the Nelk boys regaled with vapes.
The story of people preserved in the past is inherently compelling, but there’s another reason why the Sentinelese people are so relevant on YouTube in 2026. The North Sentinel Islands lie between India and Indonesia, two of the countries that are most obsessed with short-form video. Consumers in those countries have even more affinity with their Sentinelese neighbors when compared with the average viewer from another region.
You can also draw a triangle with the Sentinel Islands in the middle, and China, India, and Indonesia as the three points. Adding China into the equation further explains the sudden rise of a channel like Jadu. Though YouTube remains banned in China, channels affiliated with the country — like CGTN — are trending up, and South Asia is a growing sphere of influence for Chinese leadership.

The existence of a series like Sentinels shows the cultural shift that comes with a Global Sub Top 50 dominated by India, Indonesia, and China. Local stories are being broadcast around the world, with billions of South, East, and Southeast Asian citizens tuning in.
As for the Sentinelese themselves? They presumably haven’t seen the show made about them, but they’d probably like it. It’s a little more wholesome than a vape.
