MatPat, fresh off his retirement from Theory videos, will be a Featured Creator at VidCon 2024

Matthew Patrick may be stepping away from his role as the on-screen host of The Game Theorists, but he will stay active in the creator community. The man known as MatPat has been announced as a Featured Creator for VidCon, which will return to the Anaheim Convention Center on June 26, 2024.

Patrick is no stranger to VidCon. In his previous appearances at the annual convention, he has shared insights from his behind-the-camera work as a digital strategist and consultant. His departure from the Theorist Media brand — which was acquired by startup Lunar X in 2022 — will give him more time to analyze YouTube in detail.

VidCon announced its first batch of 2024 Featured Creators a month ago, when it set the date for the next edition of its Southern California gathering. Patrick headlined a second group of Featured Creators that also includes Fifth Harmony member Dinah Jane, “Internet Coworker” Rod Thill, multihyphenate Kalen Allen, comedian Leo Gonzalez, and VidCon Co-Founders Hank and John Green

. Hank, the younger of the two Vlogbrothers, is returning to Anaheim eight months after he revealed his cancer diagnosis in an emotional video.

“Last year I wasn’t able to go because I was getting chemo and it made me so mad,” Hank Green said in a statement. “I can’t wait to be there again, meeting old friends, making new ones, and learning about this very weird world.”

Two years after returning from a COVID-induced shift to remote events, Paramount-owned VidCon is looking ahead to 2024. The event series went global in 2023 with cons in BrazilMexico, and Baltimore, but at the moment, the only VidCon event currently scheduled for 2024 is the flagship gathering in Anaheim. Tickets for that four-day festival are currently on sale; as per usual, the agenda will be split across Community, Creator, and Industry Tracks.
