After his latest Build Against Cancer livestream, DrLupo has raised a total of $13 million for St. Jude

DrLupo‘s latest #BuildAgainstCancer livestream raised over $1 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The 24-hour stream brought in funds from more than 6,000 individual donors, and pushed DrLupo over his goal: to reach a lifetime total of $13 million raised for St. Jude, which is located in Memphis, Tenn., and provides zero-cost care to children with cancer as well as support for their families.

DrLupo (aka Ben Lupo) has been hosting #BuildAgainstCancer streams since 2018. That first year, he raised $611,000. 2019 and 2020’s streams both brought in the exact same amount of money: a whopping $2.3 million. Last year, he raised $892,498 and became the first content creator to raise $10 million for St. Jude.

(In case you’re wondering about the math in the jump from $10 million to $13 million, Lupo doesn’t only bring in donations during #BuildAgainstCancer; he also participates in St. Jude’s annual PLAY LIVE, a gamer-driven fundraising event where he and thousands of other creators donate their earnings from the month of May to the hospital.)

In previous years, Lupo has streamed #BuildAgainstCancer from his home, but this year, he streamed from the campus of St. Jude itself, bringing in staff and patients–such as Abraham, who played games on stream with Lupo’s son Charlie–as guest stars throughout the broadcast.

Richard C. Shadyac Jr., the president and CEO of St. Jude’s fundraising arm ALSAC, also stopped by to recognize Lupo’s ongoing, record-setting efforts.

“Bringing the gaming community together in shared support of St. Jude patients and families has become one of my favorite holiday traditions,” Lupo said in a statement. “And although this year marked the fifth Build Against Cancer, being able to feature some of the amazing staff and patients from St. Jude, while live from the hospital, made it feel like a new experience and that much more rewarding. I’m deeply grateful for the gamers, returning and new, who joined me for Build Against Cancer this year and turned this livestream into a milestone moment.”
