Jellysmack Finds First Acquisition In Automated Video-Editing Startup Kamua

Jellysmack, which helps top creators expand their presence across new platforms, has tendered its first acquisition of the two-year-old, A.I. video-editing company Kamua.

Jellysmack says the purchase will help expand its in-house A.I. technology suite, which works to maximize content performance for influencers within its Creator Program, many of whom rose to fame on YouTube and are now looking to build comparable followings on Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok, and beyond. It also marks one of the first acquisitive fruits of Jellysmack’s Series C funding round in May from SoftBank Vision Fund 2, which valued the company at upwards of $1 billion.

Jellysmack will harness U.K.-based Kamua’s technology to resize, frame, and recut creator videos for distribution across Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and beyond. All told, Jellysmack says it is editing over 10,000 videos on average each month, which takes roughly 150,000 hours. It expects that Kamua’s tech will enable it to collapse this window by up to three times.

Kamua will operate under the Jellysmack name once the acquisition closes, and Jellysmack plans to retain Kamua’s full-time staff and core programmers. Kamua CEO Paul Robert Cary has been named Jellysmack’s VP of technology, editing solutions.

Looking forward, Jellysmack says it will continue to allocate its funding to help round out its technical stack in the service of its Creator Program, which helps the likes of MrBeast, PewDiePie, Karina Garcia, Bailey Sarian, Patrick Starrr, Nas Daily, and Phil DeFranco grow beyond YouTube.
