Rooster Teeth’s ‘RTX Austin’ Gathering Postponed Until Labor Day Weekend

RTX Austin, the ten-year-old gaming, animation, and fandom-focused convention established by Texas-based digital media giant Rooster Teeth, has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The event, which welcomed 65,000 attendees last year — as well as exhibiting brands like AT&T, HP, and Intel — has been postponed for roughly two months. Originally slated to be held from July 3 to 5, the event will now take place over Labor Day Weekend — from September 5 to 7.

Before the event was rescheduled, Rooster Teeth had announced updated safety protocols on March 11, stating that it intended to increase cleaning and disinfecting frequency of the show facility, place hand sanitizing stations prominently throughout the venue, and add educational signage. “The safety of our attendees, staff, and everyone involved in the event continues to be our top priority,” Rooster Teeth added today

. “We will update soon on the enhanced cleaning and other measures that will be implemented at RTX.”

Rooster Teeth says that purchased badges will still be eligible for the rescheduled event, though badge holders can get full refunds if they are unable to attend in September. Information about how to request a refund will be announced soon, according to the company.

RTX, which launched in 2011 with 600 attendees, is the latest event to be impacted by the global health crisis. Other industry-wide gatherings that have been postponed include the NewFronts, VidCon U.S. and VidCon Abu DhabiCannes Lions, and NAB.
