Peter Hollens Premieres “Epic Hand Washing Parody” To Raise Money For Coronavirus Relief

YouTube musician Peter Hollens is doing his part to promote mindful hygiene during the coronavirus pandemic, as well as to raise money to combat spread and aid vulnerable communities.

On his channel today, Hollens premiered “The Epic Hand Washing Parody” — a medley track comprising tunes from the likes of Billie Eilish, Bruno Mars, and Taylor Swift — with lyrics that encourage viewers to lather up for 20 seconds, avoid touching their faces, and cough into their elbows. Hollens is best known for his a cappella videos on YouTube (2.5 million subscribers) and Facebook (1.1 million followers).

“We created this to offer a fun, positive reminder to families to do the things we can all do right now in our own homes to fight this virus,” Hollens, who has recently been nabbing 9 million monthly views, said in a statement. “I noticed my own little guy singing it while washing his hands, and I knew we were onto something.”

All of the proceeds from streaming and purchase revenues — on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, iTunes, Pandora, DeezerAmazon, and more — will go to GlobalGiving’s Coronavirus Relief Fund. GlobalGiving is a nonprofit that delivers funds to vetted organizations, and its Coronavirus Relief Fund has raised $810,000 to date of a $5 million goal. The fund is being harnessed for myriad aims, including: to send doctors and nurses to communities in need; acquire masks, ventilators, and other medical supplies for hospitals and clinics; deliver essential items to struggling families; feed children that rely on school meals; and support hygiene awareness efforts.
