YouTube has launched new filters within its iOS app that aim to help viewers more easily locate ‘Unwatched’ videos in their ‘Subscription’ feeds — among other types of videos.
In Subscriptions, the new filters (which YouTube has termed ‘topics’) appear at the top of the column — just below creators’ Stories — in bubble form, enabling users to sort their feeds by: ‘All’, ‘Today’, ‘Continue Watching’, ‘Unwatched’, ‘Live’, and ‘Posts’. (Live refers to live streams or videos that have debuted using YouTube Premieres, while Posts refers to non-video updates from creators). Once selected, each filter will turn up a list of pertinent videos in reverse chronological order, 9To5Google reports.
“During our testing, we saw that these topics encouraged more subscribers to come to their subs feed daily to look for new updates,” YouTube said of the additions.
Of course, the new filters are option-only, 9To5Google notes. By default, viewers’ Subscription feeds will include all of the aforementioned categories. The topics are currently rolling out on the YouTube app for iOS, and will come to Android “in the future,” YouTube says.
