YouTube has provided more details about its latest collaboration with Former First Lady Michelle Obama — which was announced in October as a learning-centric special that will highlight girls’ education initiatives around the globe.
Dubbed Creators for Change with Michelle Obama: Girls’ Education, the series will see Obama, Liza Koshy, Julia Roberts, Lana Condor, Vietnamese actress Ngô Thanh Vân, and Jenna Bush Hager visiting a school in Vietnam to chronicle girls’ education efforts there. The series is also being created in collaboration with the Obama Foundation’s Girls Opportunity Alliance, which promotes adolescent girls education around the world. YouTube and the Alliance will also be sending creators to India and Namibia to profile girls education on the ground there. (All of the ensuing series are being produced for YouTube by Vox Media Studios).
Creators For Change, for its part, is a YouTube initiative initially established in 2016 to furnish funds for creators whose work is focused on social advocacy.
Production on the special starts today and it is set to premiere in March 2020 on YouTube.com/Learning — a proprietary YouTube hub for educational content. It also marks the first installment in YouTube’s new Creators For Change series, which will see celebrities and YouTube creators bringing attention to causes close to their hearts.
Other learning-focused YouTube Originals to date include BookTube (which previously featured Obama), Could You Survive the Movies?, Mind Field: What is the Scariest Thing?, and Glad You Asked. The Former First Lady also worked with YouTube on an advice series dubbed A Student’s Guide To Your First Year Of College. This also isn’t the only way in which Obama is collaborating with Koshy. Last month, Koshy joined the national nonprofit When We All Vote — for which Obama serves as co-founder and co-chair.
