YouTube is rolling out its Super Chat feature, by which viewers can tip creators during live streams in order to have their comments presented more prominently — by either being highlighted with a color or pinned for a set period of time (depending on the donation amount).
The capabilty first launched in 2017 in roughly 40 countries, per 9To5Google, though a rollout today to 19 countries marks its first expansion to date.
Super Chat is now available in: Belarus, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Luxembourg, Malta, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Romania, South Africa, and Uruguay. A full list of Super Chat-enabled countries is available here
.Super Chats cost anywhere between $1 and $500 apiece (for a maximum comment duration of five hours), though there are limits as to how much users can spend on Super Chats — to the tune of $500 per day and $2,000 per week. One perk of being a YouTube Premium subscriber is $2 worth of Super Chats per month as part of your membership. Additionally, a related feature called Super Chat For Good enables people to donate directly to qualifying nonprofits.
