YouTube Rolls Out ‘Super Chat’ Feature To 19 Additional Countries

YouTube is rolling out its Super Chat feature, by which viewers can tip creators during live streams in order to have their comments presented more prominently — by either being highlighted with a color or pinned for a set period of time (depending on the donation amount).

The capabilty first launched in 2017 in roughly 40 countries, per 9To5Google, though a rollout today to 19 countries marks its first expansion to date.

Super Chat is now available in: Belarus, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Luxembourg, Malta, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Romania, South Africa, and Uruguay. A full list of Super Chat-enabled countries is available here

Super Chats cost anywhere between $1 and $500 apiece (for a maximum comment duration of five hours), though there are limits as to how much users can spend on Super Chats — to the tune of $500 per day and $2,000 per week. One perk of being a YouTube Premium subscriber is $2 worth of Super Chats per month as part of your membership. Additionally, a related feature called Super Chat For Good enables people to donate directly to qualifying nonprofits.
