Marina Joyce, a lifestyle vlogger with 2.1 million YouTube subscribers and something of a concerning past, has been found after going missing for 10 consecutive days.
London police confirmed over the weekend that the 22-year-old had been found “safe and well,” CNN reports. Before that, Joyce had last been seen on July 31, and was reported missing on Aug. 7 — whereupon local police made a (now-deleted) public appeal on Twitter for help in finding the YouTube star, who lives in North London.
Hours after the appeal was made, per CNN, Joyce’s boyfriend — a fellow vlogger named Brandon Mehmed with 9,000 subscribers — responded on Twitter, “Please don’t worry about [Marina] as she is safe and well (you have my word for that). Also, everyone who thinks I’m acting suspicious are only misinformed and don’t know me at all.” The London Metropolitan Police later confirmed Mehmed’s account that Joyce had been found.
Questions about Joyce’s mental and physical well-being date back to July 2016, when odd behavior in several of her vlogs — including appearing to whisper the words ‘Help me’ during a fashion haul — precipitated speculation that she had been kidnapped by ISIS, or her boyfriend, and was being forced to create videos against her will. Others surmised that Joyce was suffering from schizophrenia or addicted to drugs, kickstarting the hashtag #SaveMarinaJoyce, which was subsequently shared on Twitter a total of 3 million times. That incident also precipitated a visit from local police, who similarly confirmed at the time that Joyce was “safe and well.”
