The submissions deadline for the 10th annual ‘Stand Up & Pitch’ event — a comedy contest running from July 24 to 27 in Montreal during the famed Just For Laughs comedy festival — has been extended to May 13.
At the same time, Just For Laughs ComedyPRO — the four-day-long industry-oriented track of Just For Laughs — has announced a lineup of esteemed panelists who will preside over the contest, which seeks to discover new comedic talent. They include Quibi content lead Colin Davis; Erin Keating, the senior development manager of Snap Originals; Adult Swim’s director of development Cameron Tang; Amazon Studios comedy exec Punit Mattoo; and Hulu original programming exec Rob Gati. You can check out the full lineup right here.
The Stand Up & Pitch panelists will hear from five finalist creators in three different categories, who will be culled from online submissions. Finalists will pitch their digital or television concepts, with the panelists helping to select winners. Global submissions have been extended one week from May 6 to May 13 in the three following categories: ‘From Set To Screen’, which covers TV, OTT, and SVOD projects that are roughly 30 minutes in length; ‘Beyond The Box’, for digital-first shows; and the ‘CBC Comedy Originals Pitch Program’, which is exclusive to Canadian creators.
One winner from each category will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2020 edition of the Just For Laughs festival — including travel and lodging. The Stand Up & Pitch event is sponsored by CBC Comedy, Toronto-based TV studio Project 10 Productions, and Tubefilter.
Last year’s winners included Jorja Hudson and Brittany Tomkin‘s Myrtle & Willoughby in the ‘Beyond The Box’ category; Leslie Rathe‘s Tethered in ‘From Set to Screen’, and Leah Cameron and Natalie Novak‘s The Communist’s Daughter in the ‘CBC Comedy Originals Pitch Program’.
