Instagram Is Finally Testing Navigable Videos With A Seek Bar On Feed Posts

Instagram is reportedly testing a long-clamored-for feature that has somewhat surprisingly yet to be implemented: the ability to navigate through video posts.

The photo and video platform is testing a seek bar that will enable users to scroll through feed videos, The Verge reports, citing app researcher Jane Manchun Wong — who also recently unearthed another test by the Facebook-owned service that aims to make it easier for users to change their screen names.

The seek bar — which marks the same kind of interface that is available on virtually every other video platform — would give users basic control over video playback, per The Verge

, including skipping forward or back to a particular point. Unlike on other players, however, the test discovered by Wong (see below) sees the search bar at the top of videos rather than the bottom, and does not showcase frame previews while users are scrolling. (Videos posts on Instagram’s main feed can be between three and 60 seconds).

While IGTV, Instagram’s hub dedicated to episodic video content, already allows users to navigate through clips, The Verge notes that the latest test only applies to feed videos and not Instagram Stories.
