Submissions Are Now Open For Just For Laughs’ 10th Annual ‘Stand Up & Pitch’ Event

Submissions are now open for the 10th annual Just For Laughs ‘Stand Up & Pitch’ event — a comedy contest running from July 24 to 27 in Montreal that seeks to discover new comedic talent. Stand Up & Pitch is held annually during Just For Laughs — the storied comedy festival founded in 1983 that has since become the largest such event in the world.

Five finalists in three different categories will be selected from the submissions, and finalists will win the opportunity to pitch their digital or TV concepts to a panel of seasoned comedy execs on site. Global submissions, available here, are open through May 6 in the three following categories: ‘From Set To Screen’, which covers TV, OTT, and SVOD projects that are roughly 30 minutes in length; ‘Beyond The Box’, for digital-first shows; and the ‘CBC Comedy Originals Pitch Program’, which is exclusively for Canadian creators.

One winner from each category will receive an all-expense-paid trip to the 2020 edition of Just For Laughs festival — including travel and lodging. Last year’s winners included Jorja Hudson and Brittany Tomkin‘s Myrtle & Willoughby in the ‘Beyond The Box’ category; Leslie Rathe‘s Tethered in ‘From Set to Screen’, and Leah Cameron and Natalie Novak‘s The Communist’s Daughter in the ‘CBC Comedy Originals Pitch Program’.

The Stand Up & Pitch event is sponsored by CBC Comedy, Toronto-based TV studio Project 10 Productions, and Tubefilter, and will take place during Just For Laughs’ industry conference, which is dubbed Just For Laughs ComedyPRO. The four-day ComedyPRO event comprises panels, keynotes, live podcasts, networking parties, pitch sessions, and more.

“We are ecstatic to launch the 10th edition of Stand Up & Pitch and are looking forward to seeing what this year’s submissions have in store for us,” Paul Ronca, Just For Laughs’ director of industry and special events programming, said in a statement. “We couldn’t be more proud to offer these creators a platform to showcase the next wave of comedy content.”
