Hulu Becomes First Streaming Service To Accept Venmo Payments

Hulu now takes Venmo. The company revealed last week that, along with more common options like credit and debit cards, it’s allowing subscribers to pay their monthly fees using the mobile transaction service — making it the first streamer to do so.

There is a bit of a catch, however: For now, only new Hulu subscribers will be able to pay their monthly subscription fees using Venmo. New subscribers must go through the Hulu account signup as usual, and at the end can select from several payment options, including Venmo and PayPal (which owns Venmo). In a blog post, Hulu said existing users can expect to be able to switch their payment preferences to Venmo “in the coming months.”

About the switch, Hulu said, “At Hulu, we want to bring our viewers choice and flexibility, in as many ways as possible. And that includes how you want to pay for your Hulu subscription.”

Hulu currently offers subscription tiers beginning at $7.99 per month for its ad-lite service, and $11.99 per month for an ad-free experience — though there have been signs those prices may increase after Disney closes its $52.4 billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s assets, making it a majority owner of the platform.
