YouTube’s favorite animated spider is going back to school — or his merch is, at least. Lucas the Spider has teamed up with Teespring to release new, limited edition Lucas merch, including a lineup of colorful backpacks.
The new merch is a follow-up to Lucas creator Joshua Slice’s first collaboration with Teespring in June, when they sold 40,000 Lucas plushies in the first 10 days of preorders. Per a statement, the new backpacks are padded so users can carry laptops safely and are also “priced as a thank you to fans,” retailing for $42. They’re available in light blue, dark blue, and grey, and feature a printed image of Lucas himself.
Unlike the preorder-sold plushies, which are expected to ship in October, backpacks and all other listed Lucas merch, including apparel, pillow, and stickers, are made to order and will be ready to ship within seven to 10 days.
Teespring has partnered with a number of YouTube creators, including Phil DeFranco and Alan Thrall, to release themed merch, and has so far seen more than 30 individuals become millionaires as a result of selling on the site.
As for fans of Lucas, they have more than merch to look forward to. Slice, who worked on Disney’s Zootopia and Pixar’s Big Hero 6, has amassed 2,234,574 subscribers and 127 million views in nine months for his little spider friend, allowing him to ink a deal with Toronto-based studio Fresh TV to bring Lucas to big and small screens.
No release dates for Lucas productions have been announced, but a statement on Teespring’s site says Slice is hard at work on more Lucas animations — and will soon be introducing a new character.
