Seminal beauty vlogger Kandee Johnson has returned to YouTube after a two-month absence from her channel — the longest break that she has taken since launching the venture roughly a decade ago.
Johnson, who is known for her transformational makeup abilities, attributed the break to the loss of four family members within the span of a year, and also said that she has felt creatively tapped out. Johnson also cited a breakup, health issues, and technical glitches on her YouTube channel, which led to her videos being undiscoverable. “I don’t want to be losing sleep editing a video and then I can’t even see it myself on my own channel,” said the 40-year-old mother of four. “So that was making it super frustrating.”
Johnson says that she has been filming tutorials during her hiatus, but didn’t end up posting them because she was dissatisfied with how they turned out. Burnout has been mentioned by several fellow creators in recent months, including JackSepticEye and Elle Mills.
Going forward, Johnson says she’s feeling “invigorated and re-inspired,” and wants to create new types of videos — guided by fan suggestions — including challenges, collaborations, and vlogs. She also teased that she’s working on a book that will serve her greater mission: “to add positivity, hope, fun, and inspiration to your life.”
“I’m finally feeling excited about YouTube again,” Johnson said. See her return to the platform below:
