Viacom Launches New International Digital Unit To Be Led By Longtime Exec Brendan Yam

Viacom, which just acquired AwesomenessTV, is continuing to build out its digital operation on an international stage.

The company has elevated veteran executive Brendan Yam to serve as VP and general manager of Viacom Digital Studios International (VDSI) — a new unit. In this role, Yam will lead the company’s international short-form business unit, distributing and monetizing digital content for its flagship brands, including MTV, Nickelodeon, and Comedy Central. Yam will also manage business development, including branded content, licensing deals, and platform partnerships.

He will report to Katherine Liu, Viacom International Media Networks’ (VIMN) SVP of strategy and business development, as well as Kelly Day, the Awesomeness veteran who was named president of Viacom Digital Studios

(VDS) late last year.

Yam has been wtih Viacom since 2005 and most recently served as VP of multiplatform for MTV and Comedy Central International.

“Viacom has prioritized reaching digital-first audiences, and with over 3.1 billion cumulative subscribers in more than 180 countries and territories, our international youth audience is key to delivering on Viacom’s goals,” VIMN president and CEO David Lynn said in a statement.  “I’m confident that with Brendan’s passion for and knowledge of the digital, mobile, and social landscape, he and his team will elevate our short-form business and drive engagement around the world.”
