Live Streams Of A Chinese Robot-Fighting Tournament Are Getting Millions Of Views On Twitch

If, like me, you lament the cancellation of the ABC’s rebooted version of BattleBots, you might want to join the millions of viewers who are tuning in to watch the latest action from the annual Robomaster tournament. The robot combat competition, which takes place each year in Shenzhen, China, is pulling in millions of views in 2018 via Twitch live streams.

Robomaster, which is sponsored by Chinese tech giant DJI, pits teams of remote-controlled robots against one another in an arena that will look familiar to players of MOBA video games like League of Legends. During the competitions annual competition, which runs this year from July 21-29, teams from around the globe are competing to subtract each other’s hit points and take home a grand prize worth $75,000 USD.

For many Twitch users, the high-tech action among Robomaster’s machines has made for must-watch viewing. The recently completed live stream for the second day of Robomaster’s 2018 finals has received more than 1.8 million views on its own, and coverage of the event will continue on the Robomaster Twitch channel

through the 29th.
