Twitch’s Longest TV Marathon So Far Will Include More Than 500 Episodes Of ‘Doctor Who’

For its largest TV marathon to date, Twitch is heading across the pond. The streaming platform will broadcast more than 500 episodes of Doctor Who as part of a celebration that will include a sweepstakes and an auxiliary web series hosted by The Yogscast.

The marathon of TARDISes, Daleks, and Sonic Screwdrivers will begin on May 29 on the Twitch Presents channel, which has previously hosted multi-day events related to shows like Power Rangers and Saturday Night Live. More than 500 episodes, which span 26 seasons and three decades, will be included in the global viewing party. The stream will be live for seven weeks, airing from Monday to Friday and beginning at 2 PM ET each day.

Throughout the marathon, Twitch will give away rewards to Doctor Who fans. The grand prizes of that sweepstakes will be a trip to the UK for the 2018 of London Comic Con.

Meanwhile, for those of us who need some cajoling in order to tune into old Doctor Who episodes, representatives from The Yogscast will host a series that will introduce each version of the titular Doctor (more than a dozen actors have portrayed him so far) and will feature commentary from Doctor Who screenwriters and other people involved in the series.

Doctor Who…has a great tradition of pioneering new technologies, from early VHS all the way through to the new digital services of today,” said BBC Studios Head of Digital Sales and Business Development Nick Coulter in a press release. “Twitch is another great example of this, as a brilliant service with over 15 million active daily users, we are thrilled to be able to offer them the chance to indulge in the Classic Doctor Who series and celebrate its amazing 54 year legacy of excitement and innovation.”

More information about the partnership is available through a Twitch blog post.
