After Five Years, Season Five Of ‘Arrested Development’ Will Premiere On Netflix On May 29

The Bluths are back. Five years after season four of the popular sitcom Arrested Development premiered on Netflix, its fifth season is set to take the streaming world by storm when it premieres on May 29.

A half-decade after we last saw George, Lucille, Michael, Gob, Lindsay, Tobias, Buster, George Michael, and Maeby, they are collectively up for “Family of the Year,” a fictitious award that, if a trailer is to be believed, will be at the center of season five. Netflix has also launched a website that lays out the finer points of the Bluth family’s candidacy. Warning: There’s some NSFW, auto-playing audio involved.

Ever since Netflix revived the all-time TV comedy back in 2013, rumors have swirled about the show’s future. While members its creative team occasionally reassured fans that season five was indeed coming, it was only recently that Arrested Development

creator Mitch Hurwitz confirmed a new season. Last week, he tweeted that the fifth round of misadventures would reach Netflix “very soon.” To tide viewers over until then, Hurwitz and Netflix launched a re-cut version of season four, subtitled Fateful Consequences, which does away with the experimental narrative choices that made season four divisive among both critics and fans.

Days after Hurwitz’s announcement, Netflix confirmed that Jeffrey Tambor, who portrays Bluth family patriarch George Bluth, will appear in season five. Tambor left the Amazon original series Transparent last November after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct.

Those who plan to continue on with Arrested Development can circle May 29 on their calendars. In the meantime, the season four remix can be found on Netflix.
