Hulu Nabs Docuseries About The Infamous Fyre Festival Scam

Hulu is set to tackle the riveting case of a music festival gone shockingly awry in a multi-part docuseries premiering next year

The as-yet-untitled series will turn a spotlight on the Fyre Festival — which was billed as a luxurious experience on a private island in the Bahamas created by the 25-year-old entrepreneur Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule (pictured above). Hyped on Instagram by the likes of Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid, the festival not live up to its lofty promises, as guests were greeted by shoddy tents, prepackaged lunches, and other uninhabitable conditions and security concerns. All of the performers — including Blink-182 and Major Lazer — pulled out ahead of the show, and attendees looking to get back to Miami were temporarily stranded. McFarland and Ja Rule are currently being sued for roughly $100 million.

Billboard, Mic, and The Cinemart are producing the series, which will investigate what went wrong and who is ultimately to blame, according The Hollywood Reporter. The series will feature interviews with local Bahamians, attendees, and investors, as well as never-before-seen footage and leaked documents and recordings.

The series will be directed and executive produced by Cinemart’s Jenner Furst and Julia Willoughby Nason. Cinemart also worked with rapper Jay-Z on both Time: The Kalief Browder Story for Spike as well as Paramount Network‘s Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story. Other executive producers on the Fyre Festival series include Cinemart’s Michael Gasparro, Billboard’s John Amato and Dana Miller, and Mic’s Angela Freedman and Sharmi Ghandi.
