Hulu Drops Brutal Teaser For Second Season Of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’

Hulu is gearing up for the second season of its hallmark The Handmaid’s Tale series — a feminist thriller based on Margaret Atwood’s celebrated (and particularly pertinent) dystopian novel.

Following its premiere last April, the Emmy-winning series helped substantially increase Hulu’s subscriptions — as the service’s first critically-acclaimed show to break into the cultural zeitgeist. The first two episodes of season two — which will tread all-new ground given that season one covered the entirety of Atwood’s book — will launch on April 25, with subsequent installments rolling out every Wednesday.

In season two, protagonist Offred (played by Elisabeth Moss) will fight to free her unborn child from the oppressive horrors of Gilead — a totalitarian society in which women must serve as child-bearing slaves. Joseph Fiennes

, Yvonne Strahovski, and Samira Wiley also star. The show is produced by Hulu and MGM Television, and was created and executive produced by Bruce Miller. Warren Littlefield, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, Ilene Chaiken, and Moss also serve as EPs on the project.
