Facebook Extends ‘Rights Manager’ Copyright Tool To Instagram Videos

Facebook unveiled a piracy-fighting product called Rights Manager in 2016, which enables video owners to ‘Block’, ‘Monitor’, or ‘Manually Review’ any clips that commit copyright infringement — much in the same vein as YouTube’s seminal Content ID tool, launched all the way back in 2007.

And yesterday, Facebook shared in a blog post that it would be expanding Rights Manager availability to help users monitor their video and audio posts on Instagram as well. “While we’ve always provided tools for rights owners to report potential IP violations on Instagram,” writes Facebook’s head of rights and music, Fred Beteille

, “now Rights Manager offers another way to help protect your videos.”

Existing Rights Manager users can add Instagram coverage with an automatic prompt that will appear when they open the Rights Manager page, or by finding the option in ‘Page Settings’. Once Rights Manager has been enabled, all uploaded reference files will be protected across both platforms. For creators who don’t already utilize Facebook’s Rights Manager tool, applications are available right here.
