Since Scotty Sire launched his YouTube channel in 2014, his most-viewed videos have been musical in nature. A comedic rap called “Sad Song,” uploaded last February, has reeled in 8.5 million views. A similarly-styled track, “My Life Sucks,” arrived nine months after that and has since tallied 3.9 million views of its own.
Sire has now offered up another music video, and while this one is a departure from his previous work, it is also performing well. His lyric video for ‘Mister Glassman,’ which features a more pop-like tone than his previous songs, has received more than 650,000 views in its first three days of activity.
‘Mister Glassman’ is a bouncy tune that features lots of piano and draws influences from jazz and showtunes. “One of the biggest influences, at least for the name [of the song], was ‘Mister Cellophane’ from the musical Chicago. I liked the message and I love the old school sound of show- tunes, so I wanted to make something somewhat similar with my own twist on it,” Sire said in a press release. “I’m not a fantastic singer by any means, but the song sort of evolved from the original idea.”
Sire, who is a member of the so-called “Vlog Squad” and is associated with creators like David Dobrik, worked with his friend Andrew Fitzpatrick to produce the track. He complemented his new song with a lyric video produced by Kelsey Animated.
To go along with the video, Sire is selling inspirational, limited-edition merch related to the song and its themes. Some of the proceeds he earns from his new musical venture (which is currently available on Spotify and iTunes) will go towards charity. For the first month the song is live, 50% of profits from song sales and streams will go to the Organization for Autism Research.
