Chrissy Chambers, a YouTube creator and musician — who headlines the Bria And Chrissy channel (760,000 subscribers) with her fiancee, Bria Kam — just scored a major legal victory in a first-of-its-kind U.K. revenge pornography civil lawsuit.
The U.K. High Court ruled yesterday that Chambers receive an undisclosed sum in damages from her British ex-boyfriend, who shared six videos of the couple having sex on a handful of free-to-watch websites. (Chambers’ lawyer said that the overall payment was “substantial”). To celebrate her win, Chambers proposed to Kam on the courthouse steps, who promptly accepted. “To every victim of this insidious kind of attack, I am here to say: you can fight back, and win. You will heal and move on — and you will not have to take those steps alone,” Chambers said after the ruling, per the BBC.
Back in 2016, the couple released a music video for the song “Can’t Break Me,” which also served as a rallying cry for revenge porn victims. Chambers says she was unconscious when her boyfriend filmed the pornographic videos, which ultimately led to struggles with PTSD and alcoholism. She subsequently announced in 2016 that she was pursuing the first-ever civil revenge porn suit in England — with roughly $40,000 being crowdfunded by fans to cover her hefty legal fees.
As part of the settlement, Chambers’ ex must also destroy any remaining images and videos of her in his possession, and transfer the copyright of the existing videos to Chambers so that she can pursue their deletion.
