Turner’s Super Deluxe Enters New Territory By Selling Drama Series To Netflix

The two-year-old Super Deluxe channel, operated by Turner, is known for featuring funnypeople like Joanne the Scammer and Vic Berger, but its upcoming slate will include several ventures into more serious territory. It will produce a supernatural drama called Chambers, which has been picked up by Netflix.

Chambers will follow the recipient of a heart transplant, who will uncover a gripping tale as she investigates the life of the donor who saved her life. Netflix has given the series a direct-to-series order that consists of ten episodes. An official release date has not yet been announced.

Beyond Chambers, Super Deluxe is working on at least one more serious project. Two of driving forces of HBO’s Silicon Valley — executive producer Alec Berg and actor Kumail Nanjiani — will team up once again for a series based off My Beautiful Laundrette

, the 1985 indie film about a young Pakistani and his British boyfriend. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, that project has not yet been sold.

In expanding Super Deluxe, Turner is emboldened by the success the channel has achieved since its relaunch. After first emerging as an influential online comedy destination during the aughts, Super Deluxe currently has 3.9 million fans on Facebook and 1.1 million subscribers on YouTube.

As Super Deluxe ventures into more earnest territory, it will continue to showcase the brand of comedy that has led it to this point. In addition to its digital programming, it is also developing a TV series based off social media star Joanne the Scammer and her outlandish antics.
