Submissions Now Open For France’s Inaugural ‘Canneseries’ Digital Competition

The inaugural edition of the Cannes International Series Festival — a brand new television festival to be held in the same locale as the illustrious Cannes Film Festival (though the two are unaffiliated) — will take place in April, during roughly the same time as the MIPTV market in the south of France.

Canneseries, as the event has been dubbed, was founded by Cannes mayor David Lisnard and will aim to highlight noted TV series from across the world. In addition to TV projects, Canneseries will also host a dedicated competition for digital series — for which submissions are currently open.

A total of 10 digital series will be screened during the Canneseries Digital Competition, (full rules and regulations are available right here). Submitted works, which are due by Jan. 31, must feature episodes no longer than 20 minutes, and which have never aired in France on any platform. Kids’ series, animated works, and documentaries are ineligible. Ten finalists will be chosen to be screened by the Selection Committee, and announced on March 13. One winner, as chosen by a three-person jury of digital media experts, will take home the ‘Best Digital Series’ Award during the festival’s closing ceremony on April 11.

Canneseries, first announced in October, will also screen 10 half-hour and hourlong live-action TV series hailing from across the globe. Danish actress Sisde Babett Knudsen (pictured above) will serve as Canneseries’ patron, while a jury comprising TV producers, filmmakers, and journalists will choose one winner in the television realm. The festival will open with The Truth About The Harry Quebert Affair — an upcoming thriller starring Patrick Dempsey and produced by MGM Television.
