Bangladeshi American beauty vlogger Nabela Noor is having a viral moment thanks to her latest Instagram makeup tutorial, which imparts a poignant message of self-acceptance.
The tutorial, which has garnered 580,000 views thus far on Noor’s own page — in addition to about 2.6 million views thanks to a repost by Huda Kattan, per Allure — sees Noor writing words like ‘pig,’ ‘fat,’ and ‘ugly’ on her face using a brown liquid contour. Then, as tears pool in her eyes and the song ‘This Is Me‘ from The Greatest Showman plays in the background, she blends the insults into her skin and writes an affirmative motto of self-love using concealer and color-corrector.
“In 2017, I was told I should kill myself because of how I look,” Noor, 26, explains in the clip caption. “But as my confidence strengthened, I became a fortress of self-love that could not be broken by the words of unhappy people….This video is a small victory in my self-love revolution, and I can’t wait to continue the fight in 2018.” Noor has covered similar themes on her YouTube channel, which counts 434,000 subscribers, including a clip tackling issues of body positivity titled Yes, I’m Fat.
