Twitch To Seek Next Big Livestreaming Star In Upcoming Game Show

Twitch is looking to catapult an emerging streamer into wider renown with a brand new internally-produced competition series called Stream On.

The 11-week series, bowing in March, marks Twitch Studios’ first-ever game show, according to the company. It will pit burgeoning streamers within Twitch’s Partner Program (which counts roughly 25,000 members) against one another in various challenges — with the winner taking home a grand prize of $60,000 ($5,000 per month for a year). The goal, Twitch says, is to help turn the winning streamer into a household name who can look to streaming as a full-time career.

Contestants will be evaluated by a panel of Twitch employees, as well as Twitch viewers — both of whom will decide who is eliminated at every round. The company says it is looking for someone who can be entertaining, lead a community, and serve as a trendsetter in the space. The show will be broadcast on contestants’ respective channels, with a weekly recap and elimination show on Twitch’s flagship channel

Only partners from the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. are eligible, and the video audition deadline is Jan. 15. You can check out all of the rules right here, as well as a teaser video for the series on Twitch’s official blog.

Other community-focused projects that have been produced in-house at Twitch include Twitch Weekly, a platform update series; FreshStock, a sneaker-focused live docuseries; and the mini-documentary Ironsights about The Big Buck HD arcade hunting game. Twitch Studios also offers workshops for aspiring hosts.
