SoulPancake Joins Facebook Watch Lineup With Long-Distance Dating Experiment

SoulPancake is contributing to the Facebook Watch lineup in a thoughtful way. The media company founded by actor Rainn Wilson and owned by Participant Media is the producer of Love & Longitude, an unscripted dating show shot across multiple iPhones.

The stars of Love & Longitude are a pair of potential lovebirds, one in New York and one in Los Angeles, who look to foster a relationship with one another without ever meeting in person. Their romance is informed by social media, FaceTime sessions, and other interactions that will be familiar to anyone who has been in a long-distance relationship at some point in the fast five years.

The first episode of the show is available via Facebook.

To shoot Love & Longitude, SoulPancake had to design an innovative camera rig, which can be seen in the image above. “SoulPancake is about connecting people in new and interesting ways, and you can’t do that without pushing the boundaries on how stories are told, SoulPancake Head of TV and OTT Sarah North

told Tubefilter. “For this made-for-mobile series, we created a truly immersive experience for the audience by filming on a custom-built, 3D printed rig that could simultaneously record a single moment with multiple phone screens and cameras. Or, to put it briefly, it’s a wildly different way to create sticky, voyeuristic mobile-first content.”

While it makes its way to Facebook Watch, SoulPancake will remain active across other platforms. Its YouTube channel has more than 2.4 million subscribers and has received more than 360 million views to date.
