On Tuesday, YouTube hosted its first-ever stateside FanFest event — where a slew of top creators gathered for meet-and-greets and live performances — at Howard University in celebration of its 150th anniversary.
The event, organized by #YouTubeBlack — an internal effort to support the platform’s black creator community — featured performances from Alonzo Lerone, Amber’s Closet, Dainá: Dormtainment, Miles Jai, RandomStructureTV, Spoken Reasons, Summerella, Tré Melvin, TPindell, VanJess, and Daniel Caesar.
And following the FanFest , #YouTubeBlack hosted another creator summit — this time in Washington, D.C. — where bold-faced mentors from the worlds of entertainment, business, and politics provided guidance and inspiration to black digital creators. Participants included Issa Rae
, Common, Valerie Jarrett, Iyanla Vanzant, Rev Run, Amanda Seales, and Cory Booker. YouTube’s inaugural #YouTubeBlack summit, held in April 2016, featured Russell Simmons, Wanda Sykes, DeRay Mckesson, Nate Parker, Lisa Price, and Mara Brock Akil.Check out some photos from the Howard University FanFest right here:
