Facebook’s Watch Nabs Kerry Washington-Produced Drama Series ‘Five Points’

Kerry Washington’s Simpson Street production company is teaming with Indigenous Media to launch a scripted drama on Facebook’s fledgling video platform, Watch.

Five Points, created and written by Adam Giaudrone (Being Mary Jane) and directed by Thomas Carter (Save The Last Dance), is about five students at a South Side, Chicago high school who experience a life-changing event from different points of view, with each perspective being necessary to help understand the truth. The series’ executive producers include Giaudrone, Carter, Jon Avnet (Black Swan), Rodrigo Garcia (In Treatment), Jake Avnet (60 Second Docs), Washington (Confirmation), and top Simpson Street exec Pilar Savone.

The ten-episode series begins production this week. Sage Scroope and Ben Fast will produce for Indigenous.

Five Points‘ unique format, designed to engage the community in social conversation, makes it a perfect fit for Facebook’s new Watch platform,” said Indigenous COO Jake Avnet. “Indigenous Media has a long history of leveraging traditional media expertise to experiment with new formats and platforms, which is why we are excited to be an early part of Watch.” One of Indigenous’ most notable projects, for instance, is an Andrea Russett

-starring horror movie called Sickhouse, which was distributed on Snapchat.

Washington launched Simpson Street last year, and it garnered an Emmy nomination for its first project, the HBO movie Confirmation.

In addition to Five Points, The Hollywood Reporter reported today that Facebook has renewed several current Watch series for second seasons, including Mike Rowe’s Returning The Favor, reality series Ball In The Family, and the scripted comedies Strangers and Loosely Exactly Nicole.
