Roy Price, head of Amazon Studios, is the latest media executive to come under fire for allegations of sexual harassment. As a result, Amazon has suspended him from the company.
In the aftermath of the numerous sexual assault allegations against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, women have come forward to denounce other video executives for alleged sexual assault and harassment. Joining those ranks is Isa Hackett, executive producer of Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle and Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams (she’s also Philip K. Dick’s daughter). She alleges that Price sexually harassed her during a 2015 trip to San Diego Comic-Con, where they were promoting The Man in the High Castle.
The Hollywood Reporter details Hackett’s account, in which Price propositioned the producer multiple times over the course of their post-Comic-Con evening. “You will love my dick,” Price told Hackett that night, according to the report, later approaching her and saying, “Anal sex.”
Hackett first accused Price in 2015, but she came forward with more details yesterday. In August 2017, Amazon looked into Hackett’s claims using an investigator from outside of the company. When The Information
first reported the investigation, the results were unknown.Price is not the only online video exec to make it into the spotlight this month for sexual misconduct. Alex Signore, creator of the web series Honest Trailers, lost his job at Defy Media after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct, including a former ScreenJunkies intern. Defy Media owns the YouTube channel ScreenJunkies, where Signore’s Honest Trailers runs.
Amazon has also acknowledged the multiple assault allegations against Weinstein. In the same statement announcing Price’s suspension, the company said that it is “reviewing our options for the projects we have with The Weinstein Co.”
Meanwhile, Rose McGowan, an actress who received a $100,000 settlement in 1997 after Weinstein allegedly raped her, tweeted at Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos yesterday to say she’d told Price (“head of your studio”) multiple times that “HW” had raped her, to no avail. A later tweet encouraged Bezos to be the change he wants to see in the world.
