On the heels of a site-wide design overhaul and logo revamp, YouTube announced today the appointment of longtime advertising exec Tom Blessington to the newly-created role of VP of brand, media, and experiences.
Blessington, who will lead brand strategy and integrated marketing campaigns at YouTube, previously served as managing director of Wieden + Kennedy Portland — an ad agency perhaps best known for its work with Nike. Blessington will join YouTube next month, per Variety, reporting to YouTube’s chief marketing officer Danielle Tiedt and based in the company’s San Bruno, Calif., headquarters.
“Tom is well known for his culture-shaping, innovative marketing campaigns,” Tiedt said in a statement. “We can’t wait for Tom to bring his breakthrough ideas and rule-breaking spirit to YouTube.”
Blessington has worked at W+K Portland since 2006, where he oversaw campaigns for Levi’s, Facebook, Target, KFC, Verizon, and more. Prior to W+K, Blessington managed the Nissan account at TBWA\Chiat\Day in Los Angeles. Blessington’s role as managing director of W+K Portland will be filled by Karrelle Dixon, who most recent served as the company’s director of growth markets.
