Earlier this year, Funny or Die celebrated its tenth birthday. Now, in a new series, the digital comedy platform’s two founders are looking back on some of its greatest hits. Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are the co-hosts of 10 Years Of Funny Or Die, in which they take a year-by-year journey through the funny videos their website has hosted.
The premiere episode of 10 Years Of Funny Or Die begins with the video that first made the platform famous: “The Landlord.” That clip, the first one ever posted on Funny or Die, became a viral sensation thanks to the amusing back-and-forth between McKay’s daughter Pearl, who portrayed a verbally abusive landlord, and Ferrell, who portrayed her exasperated tenant.
In looking back at “The Landlord,” McKay cracked jokes (or, at least, I assume they’re jokes) about how the video affected then-20-month-old’s Pearl’s psyche. “‘The Landlord,’ without exaggeration, destroyed our family,” he quipped, but you know what if you got a laugh out of it it was worth it.”
10 Years Of Funny Or Die is sponsored by Totino’s, a brand that is no stranger to sponsored digital comedy content. In total, 11 episodes of Ferrell and McKay’s series will be produced, with each one honing in on a different part of Funny or Die history. If you’re curious to see the other videos Ferrell and McKay choose to highlight, keep an eye on Funny Or Die’s YouTube channel and website.
