Earlier this year, Funny or Die celebrated its tenth birthday. Now, in a new series, the digital comedy platform’s two founders are looking back on some of its greatest hits. Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are the co-hosts of 10 Years Of Funny Or Die, in which they take a year-by-year journey through the funny videos their website has hosted.
The premiere episode of 10 Years Of Funny Or Die begins with the video that first made the platform famous: “The Landlord.” That clip, the first one ever posted on Funny or Die, became a viral sensation thanks to the amusing back-and-forth between McKay’s daughter Pearl, who portrayed a verbally abusive landlord, and Ferrell, who portrayed her exasperated tenant.
In looking back at “The Landlord,” McKay cracked jokes (or, at least, I assume they’re jokes) about how the video affected then-20-month-old’s Pearl’s psyche. “‘The Landlord,’ without exaggeration, destroyed our family,” he quipped, but you know what if you got a laugh out of it it was worth it.”
