As one of the foremost creators on all of YouTube, Lilly ‘Superwoman’ Singh is once again utilizing her platform to empower other women.
Singh is set to serve as one of the judges of the #NewView filmmaking competition, which is currently in the works by Glamour magazine and Girlgaze — a multi-media initiative that aims to inspire female creators. The competition, according to its website, is aiming to combat the fact that just 11% of all directors of the 500 top-grossing domestic films are women.
To enter the competition, aspiring directors must create an original short film between three and five minutes long that’s about a social issue, their own lives, or modern culture. Singh and a panel of other esteemed actresses, writers, producers, and studio executives — including Netflix
VP Bela Bajaria, Transparent creator Jill Soloway, and Jada Pinkett Smith — will select five winners. Each winner will receive $3,000 in prize money, a feature in Glamour magazine, and a production budget to create a branded film for one of publication’s advertisers, including Birchbox and LuMee.Applicants can submit their work through June 30 right here.
Singh, whose How To Be A Bawse book recently topped the New York Times Best Seller list, has made female empowerment a central issue of her career through the #GirlLove initiative, a social campaign launched in December 2015 to promote positive interactions between women.
