Vimeo Takes A Page Out Of YouTube’s Book, Launches Cards And Updates End Screens

On YouTube, cards and end screens help creators drive engagement by encouraging viewers to click beyond the video they are watching. Now, those features are coming to Vimeo. The online video platform has announced that subscribers with Vimeo Business accounts will be able to employ cards and end screens, which can be used to share additional information and direct consumers to external sites.

As we’ve come to expect from Vimeo, its card-based solution, which can be seen above, is a bit more elegant than those of other online video platforms. It is designed to be mobile-friendly and can appear in multiple designs. In addition to the card style pictured above, which appears as an overlay of sorts, Vimeo shared a photo of a card that appears underneath the active video, which would appear to be a less intrusive choice.

Vimeo Business, a $50-per-month offering that launched last year, is Vimeo’s highest subscription tier. There are plenty of users within that echelon who could find good uses for cards. For example, YouTube has employed cards to help make its videos more “shoppable,” and Vimeo users with conversion-related goals may find the new tools handy.

“Quality continues to be our top priority at Vimeo and our video interaction tools are designed to feel as native, unobtrusive and engaging as possible,” said Anjali Sud, GM and SVP of Vimeo’s Creator Platform. “We also accounted for the fact that the majority of video views occur on mobile and are excited to introduce a complete, mobile-optimized solution with our new cards.”
