Game Developer Makes April Fools Joke Real To Support Embattled Hosts Of H3h3Productions

On April Fools Day 2017, video game developer Overkill Software announced a joke related to its most popular title, the first-person shooter Payday 2. The gag was a character pack that featured Ethan and Hila Klein, the husband-and-wife co-hosts of the YouTube channel h3h3productions.

A month later, Overkill is making its April Fools prank a reality. As Ethan and Hila remain continue to stare down tremendous legal expenses while defending a seemingly frivolous lawsuit fired off by the titular star of the MattHossZone YouTube channel, Overkill has committed to financially supporting them through a character pack that will feature their likenesses. The DLC that enables those skins will cost $4.99, and all the proceeds its generates will go directly to Ethan and Hila.

Overkill is clearly plugged into online video culture (after all, how many other developers can say they promoted their new game with a web series?) and through their character pack, they have found a logical way to support Ethan and Hila. “We are doing this because we appreciate them,” reads a post about the new DLC, “and wanted to find a way to help them out financially so they can continue to do what they do best.”
