Many of YouTube’s recent changes have affected viewing experiences on mobile and over-the-top devices, but the video platform also appears to be tinkering with its desktop site. On Google Chrome, users can now enable YouTube’s “dark mode,” which makes the site’s layout easier on the eyes during night-time hours.
Reddit user /u/_paul- discovered the feature and provided instructions for enabling it on PC. Mac users can turn to MacRumors
, which has offered simple, step-by-step instructions for Apple computers.Dark mode does more than give your YouTube a black-heavy facelift. The feature is clearly intended for those who watch videos at night, since research has shown that browsing the web in a layout like this can have a position effect on sleep cycles.
That said, you’re welcome to enable “dark mode” any time you want, if you prefer the contrast provided by its color scheme. Enjoy, and try not to stay up too late browsing videos — after all, you have things to do tomorrow.
